February 2011 Financial Update and Forecast
Greetings Dear Friends!
The work of Antahkarana’s village schools and projects this year
has resulted with our children achieving amazing levels of learning success. I am always staggered when I see their school work in three languages, Tibetan, English and Nepali and see them using the unique number symbols of each language to perform their math. Our incredible teachers and staff have worked tirelessly with little or no compensation. With their dedication we have managed to keep the schools open and bring renewed hope to the people of a region few are even aware of.
Newsletter subscribers, Facebook “fans” and YouTube Friends continue to increase. We are grateful to each of you who have contributed to the work. Your support is vital.
Now, I come to you to report that we are facing a situation with no wiggle room. The tuition for our students at Namgyal Middle School is past due and we are urgently in need of more financial support to meet this obligation.
I hoped to fulfill this need with our efforts at the Conscious Life Expo and The Global Action Forum in Los Angeles. Both events were productive and will bring returns but not in time to meet this immediate need. What I can report is that the founder of a well funded charity who is currently bringing medical assistance to the villages is interested in supporting our village schools. He will be visiting our Kathmandu manager in March and I will keep you posted of this exciting development.
In the meantime I must come to you with an urgent appeal. Please consider an immediate gift to keep all of our students enrolled in Namgyal Middle School.
These children are the future teachers, nurses and doctors and business people who will be among the first to fulfill their dream to return to the village to help heal the effects of a long and difficult battle with illiteracy and poverty. For the time being, their dreams depend on your generosity and willingness to support them.
During March the world will be briefly reminded of the Tibetan condition. The Chinese takeover and the March 10th uprising of 1950 that brought the Dalai Lama out of Tibet and the 2009 March 10th demonstrations and deaths in Tibet will be remembered. There will be street demonstrations in free countries around the world that have not submitted to Chinese pressure to subdue them and then media attention will sadly fade as quickly as it came.
We must deal with the condition daily. Traditional Tibetan culture is at risk. We must work hard to preserve it in the regions it actually exists.
Won’t you take the time now to visit www.savetibetanculture.org and click the donate button? So little can do so much and together we can make a miracle!
